Mission

The Commission on Baptist Heritage and Identity is part of the Baptist World Alliance, a global movement of more than 30 million Baptists.

The commission seeks to clarify issues pertaining to the heritage and identity of the Baptist family, with a view to furthering the local congregation’s understanding of its place and calling in the world and in the worldwide Baptist movement.

It records the story of God’s dealings among Baptists around the world and produces materials suitable for use by Baptists and others who are interested in understanding Baptist identity.

The Commission on Baptist Heritage and Identity is one of several commissions under the BWA’s Division on Mission, Evangelism and Justice that meet annually, in a different part of the world, in conjunction with the meetings of the BWA’s General Council.

The commission first met in Singapore in 1986 and has produced several publications since that time.
