2010: Honolulu, USA

Worship at the Congress

The Baptist World Congress met in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, from July 28 to August 1, 2010.

Several Commission members were present at the congress, but as is usual on these occasions (in contrast with the regular annual General Council), there were no dedicated sessions for the commissions. At the General Council meetings held at the commencement of the Congress, however, those members present were able to assemble very briefly to meet with the new Commission Chair, Dr. Craig Sherouse, and to hear from him about the current situation and hopes for future planning. Deputy Chair Dr. Cawley Bolt was also present. About a dozen commission members were in the group.

Announcements and explanations were also made about the new Commission arrangements following on the restructure.

Further developments will occur in the months ahead in the lead up to the first meeting of the Commission at the 2011 General Council to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, July 4-9. Registration forms for this event were distributed at the Congress and are available from the BWA office and also online.

There was no other official Heritage and Identity activity at the Congress but there were some related presentations.

The American Baptist Historical Society had a display and there were some books of interest on the Baylor Press stand.
